I suspect there is a cognitive bias to treat negatively labeled personality traits as dichotomous categories in order to create a distance between self and other (e.g., “Oh *they* are such narcissists”). But positive traits are treated more continuous. Has anyone studied that?

But what about all the “bad” non clinical individual diff measures in social psych? e.g., SDO, RWA, explicit racism. No one treats those as dichotomous.
