Watching this doc about Germaine Greer on BBC2. By God, the progressive Left was bold, expansive, open, exciting, licentious and transgressive back in the 1960s and 70s. What the hell happened? How did it go from fabulous Germaine Greer to petty little offence archeologists?
Her book 'The obstacle race' (1979) had a big impact on how I viewed the history of art. Great 70s feminist scholarship like that was worth reading even if you disagreed with the premises and conclusions, because it included actual _scholarship_.

Greer is an English professor, not a Gender Studies prof. Was, and still is a serious thinker, not a raging narcissist like Gloria Steinem.
