that’s more or less it. being surrounded by something that isn’t trying to kill you is a simple signal that you are safe. if you are safe you can let go of your defenses, and if your defenses are interfering with your sleep, you might sleep better.

One winter I had a shortage of blankets so I used a large thick matador wall tapestry for cover. It was so heavy I didn't budge all night I was snug as bug and never slept better.
