They need to check out @Effect_Altruism, @open_phil, and @GiveWell so they give effectively rather than just virtue-signaling.
Also capitalism solves a lot of problems, so it’s quite possible that they are helping hundreds of millions of people while making hundreds of millions of dollars. Shame if they had to stop doing that just because it doesn’t look like charity.
Agree. The Effective Altruism movement is very aware that free markets are already solving many problems (e.g. global poverty) at a pretty fast rate, and charity efforts should focus on neglected topics, esp. where there are market failures or inefficiencies.
I don't know about the others, but Bill Gates knows how to do that, obviously.
