I'm reading on the history of religious communes, and I swear something like 3/4 end because the spiritual leader is abusing his power for sex.
From the perspective of sexual selection theory, many men become cult leaders as a mating strategy. Totally unsurprising that they 'abuse power to get sex'. That's the whole point of getting power. Immoral? Yes. Expected given biology? Also yes.

This also has nothing to be with religion, specifically, but is just common to people getting power in general. It sticks out more in religion because of the greater hypocrisy, but the situation is far more general.

Historically, almost all cult leaders were male....why the disparity? Could there be similar explanations for the M/F CEO disparity? I'm not saying women couldn't start a cult....Oprah need only announce and Winfrey-town will form, but I feel she's not interested in that.
