Newsrooms are seeing cuts everywhere, and we saw layoffs this week at Buzzfeed, HuffPo and elsewhere. Please consider subscribing to a publication, if you don't already, because we desperately need folks who tell the truth for a living.https://twitter.com/pewresearch/status/1088618737916362753 …

In 2008, about 114,000 newsroom employees – reporters, editors, photographers and videographers – worked in five industries that produce news. By 2017, that number had declined to about 88,000, a loss of roughly 27,000 jobs. https://pewrsr.ch/2AnhQbD

The generalization that all journalists are writing "ragebait for clicks" isn't a response I'd expect to read from a scientist. As in the scientific community, there is a range in quality out there. But that doesn't mean that society doesn't need or benefit from good journalism.

Chrissy, as you probably know, I'm a fan. You absolutely bring a refreshing honest perspective. Let the haters hate. PS - Plenty of scientists are full of it. Case in point Ancel Keys. 😂

During my decades as a lackey in the MSM, it seemed to me that 95% of what got published or broadcast by the big outlets was p-r for the Establishment, whether the journalist knew it or not (and most didn’t).

I totally agree but can you provide the empirical, scientific evidence to back up that last sentence? Thanks, Professor.
