Many boys and men don't seek help because they know that about 75% of clinical psychologists are women, and therapists' offices are not welcoming places for men to express masculine identities, traits, concerns, political attitudes, sexual concerns, or family values.https://twitter.com/SPSMM_D51/status/1088458221038186496 …

Additionally, many boys & men do not seek help when they need it, & many report distinctive barriers to receiving gender-sensitive psychological treatment that adequately addresses the needs of boys & men.

It's not a free market. It's a highly regulated guild that determines state licensing laws.

As evident by 'boys and men not seeking help when they need it'?

I had an interesting discussion this weekend regarding the APA putting "stoicism" on the toxic list, which is obviously dumb. The thought was this. Therapists don't see a representative cross section of the population, they only see troubled men, so they have sampling bias.

...and within their biased sample, stoicism may be a barrier to therapy. So what is a good trait for basically everyone, they perceive as a bad trait because of their narrow sample. It was a curious idea.

I confess that I avoided it for that reason. I was already having trouble with a girlocrasy. You can't throw risk on risk.

Yep – related, we found men prefer talking involving step-by-step help, rather than just talking for the sake of it (e.g. study on men phoning helplines, and how to help to get men to use them as much as women do http://www.thehuntingdynasty.com/our-works/how-do-you-convince-men-to-telephone-a-helpline/ …)
