By "distinct" don't they just mean not identical? In other words it may be influenced, in their view, perhaps heavily so, by sex, but that there is a social component. This is self-evidently true with all these silly ppl following fads are declaring themselves new genders.
Why don't they ever talk about evolution, genetics, hormones, sexual selection, mating strategies, or sexual competition then?

I was unaware that they didn't talk about those things. I was just referring to that tweet. Aren't they mostly a group that provides advice to clients? I mean do they normally write editorials?

The APA is a little more than that. They are responsible for accrediting various university programs in psychology. I can thus understand the worry so many have over their newly released guidelines for boys and men.
