Getting a new car next week. Having a hard time deciding on the color. So here’s my decision plan: going to look at the two colors I’m thinking about one more time and then I’ll decide on the orange because it’s so cute.

I always choose white because it's the most visible and seems safest. But I don't know if there's good research on that.

Research conducted in the 70s in Germany concluded that brighter colors, or patterned paint jobs, are not safer. But one does get special credit for picking an *orange* car. <B

I recall reading somewhere years ago that a white car actually shows up dirt less than any other colour. Okay, not if you're off down a potholed farmer's lane, but everyday grime.

There is research. Human color sensitivity is higher with red and yellow than white or darker colors. Probably not known when stop lights were originally assigned colors.

I've always known that white cars should always drive with their headlights on specifically because they are the least visible.

You obviously don't drive in a winter climate. White = camouflage

Fair point. New Mexico only has snow in ski season.

I don't know about safer, but white cars are definitely cooler (meaning temperature) than darker colored cars.

White cars cresting hills can sometimes cause a moment of panic to a driver in the opposite lane thinking it might be a cop.
