Inspired by @nntaleb busting IQ as a bullshit measure, here is a thread about my personal experiences. Do I have something to contribute to the debate? I am no psychologist. I am not great at statistics. I am however a member of the New York chapter of Mensa #skininthegamepic.twitter.com/bEcdiybdCN

      2. Scott Adams take on Trump’s persuasive abilities was the first one that matched my own experience. 3. In some obscure blog post from the past @ScottAdamsSays mentions that he once joined Mensa, then let his membership lapse because he was disappointed with the experience.

      4. I may be choosing a different path than him, and I cannot vouch for nor condemn his products because I have never bought any But I sure am impressed with @tailopez ‘s Level of success and accomplishments. Look no further than his bio and you see he touts a Mensa membershippic.twitter.com/C9nOLjf33u

      5. What is the best part about living in NYC? For me, it’s hands down the proximity to people having accomplished levels of success beyond my own in all domains of life. It inspires and invigorates me. And I can learn by emulating the behaviors that worked for them.

      6. Context matters though. Why would the people at the upper economic strata, at the top of the pyramid, hang out with me? Why would they spend their time with a recent graduate from a non Ivy biz school, barely able to afford a room in Harlem on the salary of his first job?

      7. Not to say I was in an uncomfortable position. I was and am deeply grateful for everything. Still hungry for more though. I devised a strategy to infiltrate the social circle of the economic and intellectual elite of New York.

      8. I figured I’d be an interesting partner for stimulating conversation even for people as accomplished as Tai Lopez and Scott Adams After all, I am a voracious reader. I have put myself in strange situations and lived to tell the tale. And it turns out this is one such story.

      9. Long story short, following the example of Scott Adams and Tai Lopez I am looking at Mensa as a tool to increase the likelihood of meeting more people with higher success than the average person I run into on the streets of New York, or encounter in my existing social circles.

      10. If @primalpoly and @jordanbpeterson are correct in their assertion that IQ has great predictive powers for success in society, shouldn’t one expect to find lots of success concentrated in an association dedicated to bringing high IQ individuals together?

Associations dedicated to bringing high IQ individuals together are called universities, scientific societies, start-ups, think tanks, etc. MENSA is often just success-LARPing.

I agree mostly. I am not convinced exchanging IQ for intelligence in your statement would be a matter of mere semantics though. If it made sense for these institutions to do IQ tests instead or in addition to the tests they are using atm to filter candidates, why don’t they?
