Looking back on my social justice phase, the opposite was true for me (unless an eating disorder, self-injury, and weekly panic attacks are a sign of mental health). Walking on eggshells to avoid being seen as oppressive...it took a toll.

. . . and this is in response to awareness of the validity of "privilege" as an absolute (i.e., not simply political) concept. The APA has certainly become an effective political organization; I wonder if they will ever branch out into science?
