Why is the "conservative" position that college athletes not be paid? Why are those on the right for free markets, except in the case of college athletes? Dabo Swinney should be leading the fight for player pay.

On the one hand, college athletes should be paid. On the other hand, maybe full-time paid athletes shouldn't also try to be full-time students?

They aren’t full time athletes, but the combination of athletics and studies is a VERY demanding schedule. Football and basketball subsidize the rest of the programs. Basically, their labor is used to fund other athletes. They should be paid, rather than used in this way.

Look into whether programs are profitable or not. The vast majority are not even close to being profitable.

Exactly!! Every big collegiate sports program should be a semi pro team.

Lots of people work full time and go to school though. People got bills brobro.

Try or just pretend they are full time? and in most cases handed over a diploma. They should be paid as “amateur” athletes no doubt.

Let one hand wash the other. Many of these schools have millions of $$ in endowments. Unless academics are a requirement, athletes will graduate without an education.

Most are...we just focus on those who will go pro in football and basketball. 90% of student athletes are STUDENT athletes.

I thought a system like the military’s GI Bill would be good. Athletes get paid and put in the effort full time for x amount of year and receive tuition afterwards. No idea if it would work but it’s a thought

Some can actually handle it well. In my cohort? Most didn’t. Good point. And they SHOULD be paid. At least even healthcare covered?
