I'm a male faculty member, and random people pop their heads into my office about twice a week to ask for directions here or there. Not a big deal.

Perhaps her office looks like a receptionist office (via its location or layout, etc). Plus, the only way to really know in many departments is by the name tags which might be hidden from view.

I go out of my way to help people navigate our building (only psych dept so it’s easy to learn who is regularly in the building) and generally on campus when students look lost or are looking at the map. Be helpful, not annoyed, at civil people.
