You're a Navy SEAL sniper deployed in hostile territory. Your 'spotter' uses notepad & laptop to make adjustments for distance, slant range, atmospheric conditions, moving targets, etc. What's the ideal IQ for your spotter to have? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper#Sniper_teams …

It’s not that it doesn’t matter, it’s that you could argue it makes you a worse employee long term because you are less likely to be “satisfied.” I included it just to remove that argument from consideration
-
Satisfaction doesn’t mean the job is done worse. It means the whole institution will advance faster because people won’t settle. Manual labor would benefit from this as well.

Why would a gifted person lay bricks professionally? There are lots of smart and creative people one standard deviation on both sides of the IQ mean.

Some time ago masonry was one of the hardest trades

Not to take away from your point Geoffrey but masonry is a skilled trade. It is not manual labor.

I’m guessing you run into diminishing marginal returns at some point. The question is where that point lies.
-
That’s true, but that doesn’t affect your preference. You’ll always have a preference for higher returns

Not necessarily. A very smart person may get bored to death laying brinks same way. Now if he were to lay bricks for an arch or a dome, that would be different...

No. In this case IQ will determine how quickly you learn, not how well you do the job. See Prof Jordon Petersons youtube on the topic of IQ, very interesting

Because of monotonous job, repetitive function is better for lower iq. Higher iq would be thinking, how can I do this faster and easier!
