It's a good default hypothesis, even if we shouldn't make it axiomatic.
It's necessarily (mathematically) true that people shouldn't destroy the knowledge-creating-institutions part of western civilization. No moral theory can consistently disagree, because then it would allow disabling the means of applying itself to unknown parts of reality.
