Nassim Taleb has been criticizing IQ tests lately. In this nice short blog, @JamesPsychol shows that everything Taleb claims is either incoherent, or factually wrong, or pointlessly ad hominem, or already addressed by psychometricians decades ago.http://www.unz.com/jthompson/swanning-about-fooled-by-algebra/ …

The mathematical argument is that the correlation is only for low IQ, and vanishes for high IQ. But the "average" correlation is like .5. So having high IQ has 0 correlation with, say, high SAT. Therefore, it only works for low IQ. Where correlation is actually 0.8

This is stupid. The blog post at the top shows plenty of examples where higher IQ matters after 100 IQ. There's even one that shows increased chances of various outcomes at the top 1% of ability. I can't believe people ate up Taleb's made-up graphs.

"The best we have" is a poor and invalid excuse. Demanding a better measure in order to accept IQ's brokenness is not the scientific method. Doing pseudo-science much?

:) The best one is not good enough I have no doubts that it will replicate some values Since at the beginning it is measuring the very same values Yes, the lads with high IQ will do the bunch of PhD thesis And idiots will prove themselves as idiots And that's it Almost nothing

Mr. Miller, without getting into the mathematical and statistical reasons of why IQ scores are irrelevant and insignificant, may I respectfully recommend that you read the following? You never know, it might just change your mind. https://twitter.com/SimonDeDeo/status/1078772539885867015?s=20 …

Well, if it's the best one you have, then we gotta use it

So, let's just invent a "g" though god knows what it is, let's measure it? find irrelevant correlation above a certain threshold and apply it everywhere since - hey, it's the best we came up with. Brilliant. -

You are too content with IQ. It’s sad to see otherwise smart Psychs treat it as a religion. I guess your worldview depends on it. We can do far better. It’s not holistic at all, let alone even a measure. In some dystopia perhaps monopolies would use IQ to find the best slaves.
