Isn't it partly an historic accident since the "green movement" came up around the same time as the anti-nuclear bomb protests (this is at least the case in Europe) ? Strong associations were made in their thinking between "nucleair" and "evil".

We simply cannot reduce CO2 to desirable levels without dramatically increasing our use of nuclear. I’ve never understood the opposition to nuclear by progressives/environmentalists. But hey — these are the same folks who protest life-saving GMOs.

I understand it. It's the word "nuclear" coupled with the collective ignorance of their voting populace. You'll never convince people conditioned to feel weak and frightened that *nuclear power* is a good thing.

It shows that environmentalists are technological puritans. They view a pre-industrial agrarian society as inherently better and more pure than an industrial one. Often they also view agrarian indigenous cultures as the arbiters of this naturalistic fallacy.

Actually a lot of the scientists they cite STRONGLY support nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels, but the politicians know their base well enough to omit that part.
