My dad agrees with me that although both are great, the movie version of Dune is better than the book. So it appears insanity is heritable.
The Lynch movie has a distinctive & awesome visual style, and is under-rated. Except the last 20 minutes suck.

I haven’t seen it or read the book, but I worked on Lynch for a while and learned his own assessment. He said it was a failure but one of the most important moves in his career. He said that after he had failed that badly he was freed of all artistic fear.

Loved the film’s visual symbolism, like the dripping water sequences, but there’s just too much book to fit in. And the “climactic” fight scene is utter dead weight. The TV mini-series version does the story better justice, but lacks visual pizzazz.
