What Taleb told you is right - IQ differences within normal range mean nothing in life. It resonates with my life experience strongly, it would with yours too if you lived outside the academia bubble - in real life!
Literally hundreds of papers show IQ matters more in the normal range of variation than any other psychological trait ever measured. He's dead wrong, and he'd know that if he'd done _any_ research whatsoever on the topic.

You can have 50,000 papers on it, it still doesn't answer why do you have heteroscedasticity in the residuals of the regression between IQ and SAT scores. This is independent of everything else.
