What Taleb told you is right - IQ differences within normal range mean nothing in life. It resonates with my life experience strongly, it would with yours too if you lived outside the academia bubble - in real life!

Literally hundreds of papers show IQ matters more in the normal range of variation than any other psychological trait ever measured. He's dead wrong, and he'd know that if he'd done _any_ research whatsoever on the topic.

He is just very sensitive to insults. Anyway, I would like to see a serious answer to his thread from someone "pro IQ". I'm on the fence here.

There are effective thresholds: below IQ 125, people basically can't hack higher-level math and physics. So only the top 7% - in the US.

But what is your response? To a lay observer like myself, it seems he raises valid points about how IQ doesn't do a good job testing for those intangibles that arise in individuals only when their survival is at stake

He 'argues' like that about everything - when he's probably right (like with the silly claims about diversity in Roman Britain) or when he's probably wrong (inherent danger of GMO's) - that he blocked razib at all is a clue lack of equanimity
