What should be the basic goal of the US military?

For any other country in the world I'd answer protect our homeland, but being the US is no easy task, someone WILL police the world, and I'd rather it be the US than China.

I see china's imperialism as a threat, the Social Credit Syst idea "terrifies" me. Even though the US ain't no saint I think there is still room for the individual, I prefer the least possible gov involvement in their citizens life. I'd shrink all govs to their min expression
