Many of us libertarians are trying to get the national party to switch to a closed border policy. The open borders stuff is insane.

Yeah, libertarians support open borders in principle and in a free society, not in a system of forced redistribution like we have now. Libertarians shouldn't espouse open borders without rolling back the state.
It is bizarre that they don’t seem to understand that you can’t open borders prior to dismantling of social programs and reducing the government. I can’t imagine someone being schooled in Rothbard /Mises not understanding that you need to undo the perverted incentives first.
Abolish the welfare state, return power to the States and end the drug war with legalization efforts and much of the problem at the border goes away. They conveniently forget what else we support.
