Being an American Architect I can tell you Chinese engineering is not considered one of the best. Maybe 4th place after American, German and the Japanese.
They may not be top on quality, but they sure seem to have the quantity thing nailed. 17,000 miles of high speed rail in China today vs. 457 miles (Acela) in the US.

Do we need high speed rail? We have efficient air transportation. I’m curious how our flight infrastructure compares to theirs.

One thing to note is the right of way costs in China are minimal so if they want to build through your property, well that's too bad for you
