Things you never see in the news (1): Engineers (instead of politicians) discussing the best border control methods, wall and fence, etc.
Or engineers discussing anything they know about. Which is quite a lot. Oh except in China where gov't is run by engineers rather than by lawyers, with rather impressive engineery results.

Being an American Architect I can tell you Chinese engineering is not considered one of the best. Maybe 4th place after American, German and the Japanese.

They may not be top on quality, but they sure seem to have the quantity thing nailed. 17,000 miles of high speed rail in China today vs. 457 miles (Acela) in the US.

Follow the Chinese method: brutally purge and persecute more obviously political occupations for a decade or two so that a generation of ambitious people end up in engineering.

Isn't keeping people out of places a military problem with a military solution? The military have a corps of engineers. Perhaps a joint venture including military engineers and civilian architects (to improve aesthetics {military aesthetics are orderly, not inspired})
