I agree. When someone points out something terrible has happened and we should do something about it, change the subject to something that will trigger their internal guilt. Works like a charm.

Though I agree that one should help others- it doesn’t exactly follow univocally from ‘x is bad’ to ‘one should do something to prevent x’ That is, non-consequentialists are, presumably the target of this remark and they precisely those who would find this unconvincing
