Everything the vegans have told us about diet and health is wrong. *saturated fat doesn't cause heart disease *meat does not cause cancer *vegans don't live longer than others *plant foods - grains, sugar, seed oils - cause disease Why are we supposed to keep listening to them?

But even this is based on a warped concept of ethics and a complete rejection of nature and reality. Not eating animals does not reduce their suffering, as a natural death for an animal is likely to involve far more drawn out pain and suffering.
-
True, death is typically worse in nature than in a slaughterhouse. The key question is the months of suffering that factory farming can impose on chickens, pigs, etc. before that. IMHO eating pastured beef is net positive ethically.

“Intellectually serious”? What about all the rabbits, mice squirrels, deer, birds of prey, foxes, etc... Many millions of animals killed directly or by displacement due to the plow. It’s convenient to ignore these animals when considering the ethics of veganism.
-
No intellectually serious vegan does ignore these things. They just don't destroy the ethical case for eating plants directly instead of sentient, plant-eating animals who require a much larger amount of plants to be grown, protected, harvested and mowed throughout their lives.

My first reaction is that I don't trust anyone who portrays nutritional advice (or any science) as ingroup/outgroup "this group says X and is bad, so we know they are wrong about Y." But I'd agree with
@primalpoly that veganism is often a moral rather than health choice.https://twitter.com/Mangan150/status/1071560899721256961 … -
I've been asking any of them that seem to know what they are talking abut if they know how to get my body to make cholesterol from plant fats to avoid MS symptoms. No luck so far from the "Whole Food Plant Based!" propaganda squad on youtube.

It’s pretty nuanced. You can definitely be an unhealthy vegan, and you can be a healthy meat eater. Processed meat is a carcinogen though.

Vegeterianism can be, but you're right that's not the point... But it tend to be healtier because it force them to be more aware of what they eat instead of eating the standard american diet filled with process food, etc

Free range farms still have to routinely slaughter chickens. If it’s a viable biz they can’t keep hens for the 10-plus years after they stop laying eggs, and even on a hobby farm, half the chicks that hatch are male and have to be killed at some point.
