For the first time, we dropped the GRE requirement for grad student applications this year. We have received over 100 more applications than last year (558 total!), so hopefully this has increased access to allow new candidates to apply.

Good question - we have not determined that empirically, though the flaw in such a study is that if you’re taking from the extreme end of a distribution, I’m not sure you’ll learn much. Eg height of NBA players is not predictive of scoring percentages. 1/

More importantly, we’ve removed a financial barrier to application. Anecdotally, I think research experience is a better indicator of future success (I acknowledge there’s issues with that too, as not all students have had equal opportunities), and letters are also useful 2/
