Why are most academics too afraid to stand up against the 'social justice' takeover of universities? Here's a great new piece by @ConceptualJames explaining the risks & rewards that may not be obvious to folks outside academia.https://areomagazine.com/2018/12/04/are-academics-cowards-the-grip-of-grievance-studies-and-the-sunk-costs-of-academic-pursuit/ …

This is a fantastic piece. It is all the more dangerous for folks who are in the humanities since the transferability of their skills are all the less viable. The diagnoses is correct, though the solution may not be possible within academia. Like Renaissance, new model needed.

A biography of Clinton Rossiter should be required reading for every academic. He believed he could save his school from radicals and when his ministrations failed he gave way to despair and took his own life. Had he not had to fight the good fight alone it would not have been so

Difficult to exercise courage in a field that incentivizes conformity. Without exercise comes atrophy. Factors outside the system will force upon academics an overdue exercise regimen.

"the accusation that the sciences are susceptible to the forces of Social Justice and its endless politicking may come as some surprise to those in the sciences" <- No surprise here. What is the climate cult if not a SJW concoction.

Certainly. How can they not be? They are modern slaves who must serve their masters even if they have tenure. They want to receive money, prestige and speaking engagements so being a coward is easier. Working people are all slaves.

So what you're saying is, that academics of the world need to unite to rise up against their bosses and protest their working conditions? In order to achieve a more just world where we they are free to pursue what they love? I dunno, sounds pretty social-justice-y.
