The thing about Blood Meridian is, though a novel, it is entirely built around a series of actual events occurring mostly in Chihuahua state in late mid-19th C, but also on both sides of border. Also, McCarthy is the most creative prose stylist in English since Skakespeare.
The man knows how to turn a phrase. Many of his sentences made my hair stand on end. In a good way.

His vocabulary is bottomless, his phrasing and musicality like Ellington, Brahms, Wagner. He just takes flight, imitating no one. The vision is so bleak, tho. The Judge isn’t the Devil - he’s McCarthy himself.
