I always ask these people, "If you argue that it is morally bad for the government to limit your free speech, why then do you think it's ok when other groups and institutions do it?"

Because the government has the power to imprison and other institutions do not...

You have a right to say what you want without the government silencing you, or anyone using force/intimidation to silence you. You don't have a right to other people's property.pic.twitter.com/k5C4eXkDB2

You totally missed the entire point of my tweet. If a company promotes itself as a neutral public forum that respects American ideals of free speech, and then censors people based on their political views, we can object.

They can be criticized for banning people, it isn't a constitutional crisis tho
-
No, it's worse than a constitutional crisis. It's a tech oligopoly taking over the public sphere and imposing far more intrusive censorship than any American gov't has in the last century.

Keep in mind is that these platforms already hide the vast majority of content from user feeds. That’s how feeds work & what consumers want. So the debate is not whether they should or should not censor speech, it is whether their censorship machines could be better designed.
-
Respectfully, I think the definition of “hide” and “censor” are two different things in this case.

The right to free speech (and by extension, freedom of thought) preceded the founding of America by many centuries. Like the right of free people to bear arms, it has roots in ancient Anglo-Saxon law and also in ancient Greece, the birthplace of western civilization.
