Remember how I told you that a drop in international students was bad for American universities? Well, check it out. Universities are *buying insurance* against a drop in Chinese students.https://twitter.com/ericfish85/status/1068261416266809344 …

      U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has paid $424,000 to insure against a drop in Chinese students. Coverage provides up to $60 million in the event of a 20% drop in revenue from Chinese students in single year due to a “specific set of identifiable events” https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2018/11/29/university-illinois-insures-itself-against-possible-drop-chinese-enrollments …

Here's one way we're alienating international students: vague, overbroad, restrictive speech codes that make it impossible for them to anticipate what might cause Americans to 'feel offended'https://quillette.com/2018/02/16/cultural-diversity-case-free-speech/ …

To win psyop war with PRC🇨🇳, the US🇺🇸 could subsidize visiting Chinese students with generous grants & scholarships specifically for social sciences & humanities to program them into good little Baizuo-Bots until sending them back to bring a great promising nation to its knees.pic.twitter.com/wzmYf4GfLL

As a foreign faculty, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that. Observing and learning what's appropriate when you're abroad is the bare minimum required from foreigners, and really isn't that hard. "Locals" seems to have more issue with that than foreign students and faculty.
