Giving your child a dumb name like ABCDE should be considered child abuse because you’re willing to condemn your child to a lifetime of mockery so you can get attention.

No offense to guys who go by 'Geoff' btw. It should be a voluntary choice. Like, if a guy introduces himself as 'James', don't start calling him 'Jimmy' right away.

There's an acceptable window of weirdness. If your last name is always going to be misspelled (like mine) or mispronounced, your first name should be easy and conventional. But if your last name is Smith, then your first name should be somewhat weirder / less common than John.

I like the idea of making name-changing more the norm. Of my closest friends, about half of us have changed our names at least once (some legally, some not). Why assume the name your parents chose, before they even knew you, was a good choice?
