There are ways around this, most notably female cuckoldry (proactive or retroactive). Women's sexual strategy plays a part in this too. If an Alpha can breed with more women, while Beta fathers accept parental investment of his kids it's a win-win-lose.
In other words, the betas would quickly go extinct under your model. So why are they still around? Doesn't make sense.

Not if e.g the lower 80% of males is ALWAYS forced into beta status (dad), and only the upper 20% can practice cad (alpha) lifestyle (the higher there more). This happens if all females shoot for the top. There will always be a pyramid. But: cultural norms can counteract that.
