Some people believe it's unethical to use CRISPR-cas9 technology to select for certain traits in human offspring. Was it ethical for our ancestors to use mate choice over the last few million years to select for certain traits in partners & offspring?

Bc the key issue w/ CRISPR is whether it morally permissible for us to edit germ line genomes *given that we know that we don’t know the effects of each edit*. Ancestors had no analogous knowledge and thus faced no analogous moral problem.

I.e. “Do we have good enough explanatory theories about the effects of these edits to morally justify performing them?” is our question, which I don’t think our ancestors grappled with.
