IQ raising programs have a remarkably low effectiveness. Nootropics (caffeine etc.) seem to act mostly through increasing alertness. If regular sleep, exercise, and 'positive' stress accomplishes the same, are nootropic benefits negligible for those with already good life habits?

And the obvious follow-up, do college students perform well because their brains are still growing and college is a relatively low stress environment where most get lots of sleep and good medical care, etc? --So they can go to high alertness more easily?

Measured on real IQ tests? I love coffee, but 5 IQ points seems a lot. I'd love to see the research of that. I mean, if that were the case, companies that don't give out free coffee are insane.
