Call me crazy, but I’m much more scared of AI than I am of climate change 🤷‍♂️

AI is a true existential risk. Climate change isn't. So it's the right view to have. Most people will look back and wish they'd realized this....

He's an evo psychologist who seems to get frustrated when people denigrate evo psych as a discipline. Fair enough. But considering the fact that we know climate change has killed more species than any weapon ever conceived, the ideologues should probably let the pros handle this

Climate change has and will likely continue to cause crises for humans to deal with. We have to do what we can to prevent further change & mitigate its effects. But it is far from threatening the *existence* of the human species the way an AI singularity might.

One doesn't necessarily have to delegitimize one threat in the face of another. Yes, we have no idea what an ASI will do once it exists. That's terrifying, and every expert on the matter should be listened to. I'm advocating nothing less/more for climate change.

1/ Another thing that's interesting (really, all others who aren't politically motivated should find interesting as well) is that there's nearly a 50/50 disagreement between experts on whether AI presents a real threat. I fall on the "it's a threat" side, though I'm no expert.

I agree that AI expert opinion in split - and it's fascinating that there's so much uncertainty. But that should lead us to be very cautious, I think.

I find the way the optimists dismiss the potential threats of AI to be far too cavalier. It's rational to want to tread very carefully as we move further into this area.
