Call me crazy, but I’m much more scared of AI than I am of climate change

E.g.,
@elonmusk and@samharris can talk about "the control problem" while also worrying about the AI's "open-ended utility function". But isn't this a simple contradiction? An AGI's values will depend on its moral knowledge, which it will create as we do. It'll be a person.
It'll be a 'person' billions of times smarter, faster, and more powerful than any human who's ever lived, with no peer group, customs, norms, or laws to constrain its behavior. Good luck with that.

Culture *consists of* knowledge, created by people, which none of us "has" when we're born. We assimilate it, each of us, and recreate it anew in our own minds as we grow into it. Shouldn't we expect an AGI to do the same? Unless we exclude it from our culture out of fear.

Damned right I want to exclude it out of fear. Fear is very useful when you're facing a demon.

All known intelligence requires consciousness, which in turn requires a complex interaction of physical processes that we can’t even begin to comprehend the ultimate nature of. What makes you think that we’ll be able to create that with the right combination of bits?
