A great book, although @tylercowen arguably under-plays the problem of existential risk at both the civilizational level (e.g. downsides of immigration) and the global level (e.g. nuclear war, AGI).

The point is more that Cowen underplays xrisk given his own premises. If the far future matters so much, averting extinction is extremely important since there'll be no one around to enjoy the fruits of economic growth
