One of the saddest aspects of the left/right divide is that there are many well-meaning people on both sides who genuinely want to help the poor and the underprivileged and the unwell - some people prefer government, some people prefer the free-market, but the goal is to help.

I agree that economic growth through free markets is by far the best way to reduce global poverty -- as would almost all Effective Altruists. Charity is just a stopgap to reduce suffering until prosperity takes hold everywhere.
