Follower count is a bad metric. The fact that publishers use it does not make it good. Are you really unaware of the excessive bot/troll/fake accounts that are used to pump the follower count? Jack is right. A better system is needed.
The fact that publishers use it means that authors have to care about it.
If it ceases to exist then publishers can't use it ergo you won't have to care about it. Or am I missing something?
