With all due respect (I’m borrowing @Rongwrong_ tactic here), I feel you are not engaging with the argument fully when you portray it like this.
I've engaged with this kind of argument for 30 years, and the science-denialist rhetoric hasn't changed _at all_, while the science has progressed dramatically.
I understand you’re frustrated, but they are not making a scientific argument. They are making an existential argument.
Environments can ruin personal capacities, they can excite personal capacities, they can enhance personal capacities. But the actual capacity itself is predetermined, like a that of a Vat. A Vat can be half-full, but it can't be twice full.
