Yep! Several skills involved with that. Plus the actual responsibility that comes from hiring people and being responsive to customers. No professor ever worries about that.

Well professors with large grants directly employ many people on 'soft money', and are highly responsible for day-to-day management of labs. But that's a minority of profs.

Sure, but that's not the majority of those jobs, not even close. Overwhelming minority of those positions actually. But your point is taken for sure. I was in the Marine Corps infantry. Same thing. ONLY DUMMIES! Easily more mentally challenging than most jobs in the military.
