An outrageous betrayal: @Twitter CEO @jack proposes hiding everyone's follower counts.
Do you realize that tens of thousands of authors have spent millions of hours building up their followings because book publishers expect high follower counts?https://www.cnet.com/news/twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-says-you-shouldnt-obsess-over-your-follower-count/ …

Because they now have zero. It affects them exactly the same and publishers would have to go back to not requiring such an absurd thing.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This change wouldn't affect how many people see a user with high follower's posts though correct? Their clout (as long as it's legitimate & ENGAGING) would still function exactly as we know it. People with 2k followers would still get 10 likes, and someone with 50k would get 75

Aside from the fact that they're highly unlikely to actually turn off follower count, Yes, you are very correct.

So to an author, time invested in 'dedicated engagement' is to boost book sales? That's not engagement. That's promotion. That's *pretending* to engage, and insuting to your followers.
-
Duh! Of course it's promotion. Anyone with 200K followers is selling something.

Because if there are no follower counts your publisher can’t hold either of you accountable for an arbitrary amount, regardless of experience. Pretty dumb metric for a perf review. Wonder if it’s legal?
-
The idea of publishers employing a proxy for the amount of draw/social capital an author can bring to them is dumb? Huh?!
