This was pretty much Darwin's experience on the Beagle.... seeing new species in new worlds.

I had this experience listening to Sam Harris podcast w/ Geoffrey West (how biological systems scale). West compared trees to circulatory systems. It was transformative. I was walking thru some craggy woods, suddenly aware I was surrounded by an organism. It felt alien.
