Accept the fact that you were meant for stand-up comedy. You’ve got the relevant knowledge (politics, sex, psychology...etc) and the capacity to subvert expectations with absurdity. All your years of academia have prepared you for this. Embrace it.
Trouble is, it takes ten years on the road to get good at stand-up.
