Why won’t our media talk about global warming, the most important story in human history? An extinction level event that is bearing down on us faster and faster? It really is an insane and unparalleled dereliction of duty on the part of the media.

Seems strange to pick one narrow field and ignore all others. Especially when those others are clearly indicating an extinction level event.http://news.mit.edu/2017/mathematics-predicts-sixth-mass-extinction-0920 …

Given 4,000 active nuclear weapons in the world, a sudden error/escalation could destroy billions of people tomorrow; we've had at least a dozen historical instances of narrowly avoiding nuclear war. Global warming models give us decades to prevent problems before billions die.

We can be terrified of two things Geoffrey

Yes, and I would be happier if the media gave roughly equal coverage to both risks. But it gives at least 100x more coverage to global warming.

History shows three warmer eras in human time, all called climate optimums and associated with fewer wars, deaths and more food and prosperity. You can fool some of the people some of the time.

When the environment crashes–leading to massive food and water shortages—will nations put aside their differences to work together or will nations start (evermore) regional wars in an attempt to secure scarce resources and thereby stand any chance of preserving their societies?

In other words, it is not difficult or unreasonable to imagine environmental catastrophe leading to more frequent and numerous incidents of armed conflict and ultimately the use of nuclear weapons.

In fairness, global warming is being allowed to happen without the necessary precautions while global thermonuclear war is being actively prevented. Though the latter *could* happen someday, the former *is* currently. We must play the cards we are dealt.
