1) if your book does well (but not a bestseller), maybe 10k people will buy it, and 3k finish it.
2) if you're on a popular podcast (like @joerogan or @RubinReport), at least 100k people will hear your ideas.

Another reality check: @RichardDawkins has the same number of Twitter followers (2.8 million) as @JeffreeStar, whose Youtube makeup tutorials get at least 2 million views within a week of release.
Could we explain this in evolutionary terms?
TBF, people hold certain things to different values (ie, some value Star's tutorials more than Dawkin's lectures). Nothing wrong with that.
Writing a book is more for the author anyway. Mozart hasn’t as many YouTube views as Lady Gaga but has hundreds of years behind and ahead.
Right. Like how Bruno Mars has 2Billion+ views to some of his videos. But how many are 12 year old girls and how many view multiple times? A LOT!

Jeffree helps more people than Richard - nothing wrong with appealing to the lowest common denominator. Expounding upon the perpetual "arms race" between cuckoo and other birds has yet to get me laid.
