I 100% agree. It's one of the most compelling pieces of narrative visual storytelling I've ever seen - much more seamless than the ever-quoted Casablanca. It makes me transfixed throughout (and sweat). So much to learn about humans from it. Shame about the director though.

I loved Quest for Fire (1981), but could never recommend it to students due to its rather implausible mating dynamics.

Good God, I MUST watch this!!! BTW what did you think about Apocalypto?

Apocaylpto is my second choice for best depiction of prehistory -- except it's mostly set in 'history'. An under-rated movie that I've assigned in some classes.
