People are generally so good at gratitude to their parents, but so bad at gratitude to earlier generations, for all the amazing progress and prosperity they worked so hard to bestow on us.

I think part of losing that connection is having little to no kids and by default no extended families and when coupled w the mobility of modern people you lose those family and cultural connections to learn of earlier sacrafices.
