How did we get to the situation where many philosophers believe the main task for a philosopher is to publish a series of mediocre articles in stilted prose in peer-reviewed journals?

Effective altruism = smallest dose of will to power. Philosophy is about usefully describing the world before we have the capacity to test scientifically (or it used to be).
